Top Packing Tips for a Destination Wedding

by | Packing

The big day is getting closer and closer and you have to start packing all the necessities for the trip. Sounds pretty easy right? Wrong.

Here are the top tips for making your dream destination wedding, a reality.

1. Pack clothes and important wedding stuff in your carry on

It always pays to pack a nice outfit and a swimsuit in your carry on. The last thing you want is to check in at 9 a.m. and be stuck waiting around in your airplane clothes until your room is ready.

The main goal is to get there and start enjoying your vacation right away!

Also, pack any important wedding items such as meaningful jewelry, receipts, guest book, etc. in your carry on just in case something happens to your luggage. You want to be prepared for any situation and make your trip as stress-free as possible.

2. Don’t pack your wedding dress in your luggage!

You CAN bring your dress on the plane with you!

We know what you’re thinking though, where am I going to put it? Top tip is to lay your dress flat on top of the carry on’s in the luggage compartment. This way your dress doesn’t get caught underneath peoples bags and get damaged.

Sometimes there is a closet where you can hang your dress but a lot of times you won’t have access to it.

3. Make-up and hair products HAVE to be under 100 ml

This is an important reminder to all you future destination brides that your favourite hair spray, you know the one that makes your hair super glossy and luscious? Has to be 100 ml or less!

Too often brides are stopped at airport security because the products they need to get ready for their wedding day are not allowed on the plane.

How do you avoid this?

Buy travel size EVERYTHING and look into travel bottles for the products that don’t come in smaller sizes. We know this sounds ridiculous but trust us when we say it will save you time and unnecessary stress.

4. If you’re giving your guests gifts, deliver them at the airport

Make sure you give your guests their wedding favours upon arrival or departure. This is key to a smooth vacation week.

No one wants to spend their honeymoon struggling to track down guests so they can have that special little something. Do it at the airport where everyone will be in one place at the same time!

5. Pack properly

Have you ever heard the saying “bring half of the clothes you think you need and twice as much money?”

There is a lot of truth to it. We recommend watching Tidying up with Marie Kondo to learn how to pack a bag properly for a trip! This way you’ll fit everything you need and not have to cram the extra stuff you get overseas on the way home.

6. Must have’s

Don’t know what you NEED to bring? Don’t worry, here’s a list of must have’s.

You should always pack a sewing kit, extra sunscreen (if you think you have enough pack another bottle), medicines (Tylenol, Advil, Reactine, etc…) make sure you have it all, and if you’re traveling with little ones make sure you have extra of all your baby necessities.

These are my top tips for packing for your special day away! Don’t forget to enjoy your wedding and make memories that will last a lifetime.
